Offshore Sulphuryl Fluoride SO2F2 Treatment Providers
Reminder: Check AQIS’s Import Conditions database (ICON), and your Import Permit conditions (if relevant) to determine all import requirements prior to importing, and to confirm that offshore Sulphuryl fluoride treatment is an acceptable treatment option for your commodity.
Sulphuryl fluoride is widely used to control insect pests of timber. The fumigant is damaging to plants, fruits, vegetables and tubers and it must not be used for the fumigation of foodstuffs for human or animal consumption. Although it is not reported to have any significant effects on the germination of seeds, Sulphuryl fluoride is generally not used for fumigation of seeds.
The gas has an advantage over methyl bromide in that it can be used without any deleterious effects on photographic supplies, metals, electronic components, papers, leather, rubbers, plastics or wallpapers.
More detailed information about acceptable Sulphuryl fluoride fumigations for timber commodities, packing and dunnage can be found in the AQIS publication titled Cargo Containers – Quarantine Aspects and Procedures.
Where Sulphuryl fluoride is an AQIS approved treatment for particular commodities, AQIS accepts certification from offshore Sulphuryl fluoride treatment providers in all countries.
Sulphuryl fluoride is currently not registered for use in Australia.
