Current Animal IRAs and Policy and Scientific Reviews
Animal Biosecurity develops policies which allow for the safe importation of animals, their genetic material and other products. Major policy changes are based on an Import Risk Analysis (IRA) process that is conducted according to Government policy and in a manner consistent with the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement). Minor amendments are addressed through a policy revision or scientific review.
Animal Biosecurity is currently conducting the following IRAs and policy and scientific reviews:
- Beef and beef products for human consumption - 'stop the clock' provisions have been invoked
- Dogs and Cats Comments open until 24 September 2012
- Review of the horse IRA
- Ornamental Finfish
- Review of gamma irradiation as a treatment to address pathogens of animal biosecurity concern
