Current Plant IRAs

The current status of plant Import Risk Analyses (IRAs) being conducted by Biosecurity Australia is summarised below.

Allium

Biosecurity Australia continues to review its IRA work program, which may result in this IRA being removed from the IRA process. This may be completed as a series of smaller reviews and extensions to existing policy.

Apples
from China

A draft IRA report for apples from China has been issued for consultation until 23 March 2009.

from the USA

Biosecurity Australia is considering comments received on the issues paper for apples from the USA.

Bulbs
from Netherlands, UK, NZ, Israel

Biosecurity Australia continues to review its IRA work program, which may result in this IRA being removed from the IRA process. This may be completed as a series of smaller reviews and extensions to existing policy.

Capsicums (paprika)
from Korea

Capsicums (paprika) from the Republic of Korea provisional final report is open to appeal until 17 June 2009.

Citrus
from Florida, USA

The IRA has been delayed and further progress is dependent on additional information being provided by the US on citrus canker. Funding for the Florida citrus canker eradication program by the US Dept of Agriculture ceased in January 2006. 

The US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is developing an area wide regulatory response and compliance program, the Citrus Health Response Program (CHRP), to suppress citrus canker and address other potential pest threats for the 2006/2007 production season.

The CHRP will be considered by Biosecurity Australia in the preparation of the revised draft IRA report for Florida citrus when it is available.

from South Africa

This IRA is on hold pending receipt of additional information requested from the South African authorities.

Coniferous timber and wood packaging

Biosecurity Australia continues to review its IRA work program, which may result in this IRA being removed from the IRA process. This may be completed as a series of smaller reviews and extensions to existing policy.

Mushrooms

Stone fruit

A draft Import Risk Analysis report has been issued for comments and submissions by 27 June 2008 for stone fruit (peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots) from the United States (California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington).

Table grapes from China BAA 2008/28 announced the commencement of an import risk analysis for table grapes from China.

Unshu mandarins
from Japan

The Import Risk Analysis Panel is considering three submissions received within the appeal period.

Unshu mandarins
from South Korea

PBPM 2005/01 of 8 February 2005, notified stakeholders of the decision to include consideration of the Republic of Korea’s import access request for fresh unshu mandarin fruit to Australia in the current import risk analysis on fresh unshu mandarin fruit from Japan.

Subsequently, the Republic of Korea has been advised that the import risk analysis will be progressed separately from Japan.
