Final Policy Released
- The final policy for the importation of dogs and cats and their semen from approved countries has been released.
Fee increase from 1 July 2014
The department has reviewed the biosecurity cost recovery arrangements and is adjusting fees for import permits and post entry quarantine from 1 July 2014. Further information about changes to fees can be found on the biosecurity fee review page.
Cats and dogs can be imported to Australia under strict conditions designed to manage biosecurity risks. For the import conditions applicable to your cat or dog, view the step-by-step guides and the pre-export preparation calculator below.
You will not require a permit to import a cat or dog from New Zealand, however conditions apply.
Different conditions apply for the importation of assistance dogs.
