Additional Resources
This page provides a sample of the range of climate-related links to access resources on the web.
Climate Variability Research
Australian (examples only)
- Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry: one of the lead agencies working with state and territory Governments developing climate change policy for rural and regional Australia.
- Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology: Australia's national meteorological agency, providing a wide range of advice and services from a national and international perspective.
- The Australian Government Greenhouse Office: supports comprehensive Southern Hemisphere climate change research.
- CSIRO Climate Program: conducts internationally-recognised research into climate change and climate variability.
- Australian Government Land Water Australia: a research and development corporation focussing on sustainable natural resource management.
- Agricultural Production Systems Research Unit (APSRU): a joint research facility of Queensland Departments of Primary Industries (DPI) and Natural Resources (DNR) and CSIRO Tropical Agriculture.
- The Long Paddock Climate management information for rural Australia, hosted by the Queensland Government, supplying decision information services for climate risk management, particularly those associated with ENSO.
International (examples only)
- Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Global Information and Early Warning System on Food & Agriculture: reports regularly through their regional reports of the vegetation (including crop) and weather status around the world.
- Global Environment Facility (GEF): established in 1991, helps developing countries fund projects and programs that protect the global environment.
- Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC): established by WMO and UNEP to assess scientific, technical and socio- economic information relevant to the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. It is open to all Members of the UN and of WMO.
- International Geosphere and Biosphere Program (IGBP): an international scientific research program built on interdisciplinarity, networking and integration, adding value to a large number of individual, national and regional research projects through integrating activities to achieve enhanced scientific understanding.
- Advanced Terrestrial Ecosystem Analysis and Modelling (ATEAM): has a main objective to assess the vulnerability of human sectors relying on ecosystem services with respect to global change.
- Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research: part of the UK Meteorological Office, focussing on the issues of Climate Change from a UK perspective.
- US Department of Agriculture - Drought and Disaster Assistance: through a wide range of programs, USDA provides assistance for losses that result from drought, flood, fire, freeze, tornadoes, pest infestation, and other calamities.
- US Drought Mitigation Centre: helps develop and implement measures to reduce societal vulnerability to drought, through stressing preparation and risk management, rather than crisis management.
- US National Water and Climate Center: is aglobally recognised source for spatial snow, water, climate, and hydrologic network of information and technology.
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admininstration (NOAA): conducts research and gathers data about the global oceans, atmosphere, space and sun, and applies this knowledge to science and service that touch the lives of all Americans.
- Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis: conduct research in coupled and atmospheric climate modelling, sea-ice modelling, climate variability and predictability, the carbon cycle, and a number of other areas - with a Canadian focus.
- European Climate Forum: a forum of European climate research agencies, companies and other interested scientific parties.
