- Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry contains useful information on various aspects of Australian fisheries, aquaculture and other marine issues.
- Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) is a professionally independent government economic research agency of the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
- Australian Institute of Marine Science in Townsville, Queensland has a broad programme of research on Australia's tropical marine communities.
- Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) is the Commonwealth statutory authority responsible for ensuring the sustainable use and efficient management of Commonwealth fishery resources on behalf of the Australian community and key stakeholders.
- Australian Coastal Atlas is a network of Commonwealth and state/territory nodes using a variety of interactive mapping tools to provide information about the Australian coastal environment.
- CSIRO Division of Marine and Atmospheric Research has been formed from the CSIRO Divisions of Fisheries and Oceanography.

International agencies
- FishBase is an electronic encyclopaedia with key data on the biology of fishes. It is published by the International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management (ICLARM) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Fishbase now includes information on Australian fish species, provided by the Bureau of Rural Sciences.
- FAO Fisheries - FAO's Major Programme on Fisheries aims to promote sustainable development of responsible fisheries and contribute to food security.
- The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (formerly the South Pacific Commission), based in Noumea, New Caledonia, has coastal and oceanic fisheries research and development programmes.
- Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT) aims to ensure, through appropriate management, the conservation and optimum utilisation of the global SBT fishery.
- Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) aims to conserve marine life. This does not exclude harvesting as long as such harvesting is carried out in a rational manner.
- Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) aims to promote cooperation among its Members with a view to ensuring, through appropriate management, the conservation and optimum utilisation of stocks of tuna and tuna-like species in the Indian Ocean, and encourage sustainable development of fisheries based on such stocks.
