Effective management of small pelagic species is important to ensure the sustainability of the fisheries, balance interactions between the fishing sectors and maintain their important ecological role. Understanding of the catch and effort levels across the fisheries is needed to underpin their management and inform any resource sharing discussions.
This report presents data and information on the catch and fishing activity of the key fisheries for small pelagic species off the east coast of Australia, in particular fisheries in New South Wales (NSW) waters and the Commonwealth waters offshore from NSW.
