Consistent National Guidelines

The National Vegetation Information System (NVIS) has three sets of consistent national guidelines available:

The first two sets of guidelines draw directly from the Yellow and Blue Books, which are key components of the Australian Collaborative Land Evaluation Program's series of the Australian Soil and Land Survey Handbooks. These handbooks provide nationally consistent guidelines and methods for the capture, interpretation and management of integrated biophysical data and information.

NVIS has commenced incorporating information on non-native and non-vegetated cover types based on the Food and Agriculture Organisation Land Cover Classification System (FAO LCCS).

All three sets of guidelines have been developed and implemented in cooperation with ESCAVI - the National Coordinating Committee for Australian vegetation.
