'Being selected as the Queensland winner of the Science and Innovation award 2007 allowed me to purchase equipment and use facilities I otherwsie would not have been able to afford when completing a key experiment during my PhD reseach. This was instrumental in helping me develop an innovative research record and a track record in procuring funding, which all in turn helped me to find employment after my PhD, a three-year postdoctoral fellowship with CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems.'
