Community Networks and Capacity Building

For people living and working in rural, regional and remote Australia the changing climate provides challenges but also offers opportunities. Community Networks and Capacity Building, a component of Australia’s Farming Future, aims to build the leadership and representative capacity of young people (as well as Indigenous Australians, women and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds) entering or involved in primary industries, particularly in the context of the challenges and opportunities in these industries as a result of a changing climate.

Having a Voice

The Australian Youth Forum is an exciting new initiative, which will enable young Australians to be engaged in discussions with the Australian Government about important issues. The establishment of the AYF shows that the government places significant value on the voices and views of young Australians, their creativity, unique perspectives and capacity to contribute to public debate.

Heywire is a space and a competition for young people from rural and regional Australia.  It provides the opportunity to share their opinions, ideas and feelings by submitting a story about life in Australia outside the major cities. The stories of the Heywire 2010 winners are available at the Heywire website. These winners are attending an all-expenses-paid trip to the Heywire Youth Issues Forum in Canberra in February 2011 where they will have a chance to visit parliament, meet their federal and local members and talk about life in rural and regional Australia.
