Development of Resource Sharing Arrangements in the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery

What’s happening and next steps 

The Department contracted Mr Ewan Colquhoun to facilitate the development of options for resource sharing arrangements in the ETBF. This process has now been finalised and Mr Colquhoun has presented his final paper to the Department for consideration (see below).

The information will be provided to the Minister for his consideration before going out to stakeholders and state governments for consulation on a final proposed arrangement.

The Department established a register for all stakeholders with an interest in resource sharing developments in the ETBF. The following updates were provided to registered parties:

ETBF Resource Sharing Intergovernmental Meetings

The Department chaired a meeting on 22 February 2006 in Sydney with relevant state fisheries management agencies associated with management in the ETBF. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the current management regimes that apply to users of the ETBF and to discuss the current management regimes that apply to users of the ETBF and to discuss what expectations could realistically be met through the resource sharing process in terms of management, reporting and information exchange.
