Fisheries Action Program
The Fisheries Action Program was a program of the first phase (1996-2002) of the Natural Heritage Trust. It aimed to help rebuild Australia's fisheries to more productive and sustainable levels. It funded projects directly related to fish biodiversity, fish habitat and Australia's aquatic environment.
The last funding round ended in September 2002 and the program is now finalised. The Program gave priority to funding practical projects in freshwater, estuarine and marine environments that addressed the causes of the degradation of fisheries resources rather than the symptoms.
Fisheries under the Second Phase of the Natural Heritage Trust (2002-07) are funded and managed by the Fisheries and Marine Environment Branch of the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
