Research and Development
Funding for research relevant to the management of Commonwealth fisheries in Australia comes mainly from the following sources:
Fisheries Research and Development Corporation
Established under the Research and Development Corporation framework, the FRDC provides a planning and funding mechanism to increase industry investment in, and improve the cost-effectiveness of fisheries research. FRDCs funding base comes from both government and industry contributions.
Australian Fisheries Management Authority
AFMA draws its research funds from an annual Australian Government appropriation of $1 million, and industry research levies.
Fisheries Resources Research Fund
The FRRF draws it research funds from an annual Australian Government of approximately $3 million, and is administered by DAFF.
