Recreational Fishing Advisory Committee

The Recreational Fishing Advisory Committee was established in 2009 to help develop the Recreational Fishing Industry Development Strategy.

In December 2010, the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, and the Parliamentary Secretary, Dr Mike Kelly announced two new appointments (David Llewellyn and Ian Fitzgerald) to the Recreational Fishing Advisory Committee and $1.1 million in funding for a range of new projects to boost Australia’s recreational fishing industry.

The latest funding is in addition to $500,000 recently allocated to the recreational fishing national data collection project .

The projects will be managed by the Fisheries Research Development Corporation (FRDC). Details of the project are available on the FRDC website.

The Recreational Fishing Advisory Committee will finish its terms of reference on 30 June 2011. A Recreational Fishing Roundtable  has been introduced and will be used as the forum for recreational and charter fishers to discuss and progress their issues with the Australian Government.
