Tasmanian Forest Industry Development Program
Under the Tasmanian Forest Industry Development Program (TFIDP), the Australian Government has provided $42 million to assist the Tasmanian native timber industry to adjust to changes in forest resources arising from the Tasmanian Community Forest Agreement. Specifically, the program contributed financial assistance for 68 projects that have improved sawlog utilisation rates, added value to Tasmanian forest resources, developed new products, upgraded harvesting equipment, promoted exports, and maintained and created long-term employment.
These 68 projects have contributed over $150 million of new investment across the harvesting, processing and value adding sectors of the native hardwood industry and the creation of over 110 new jobs.
An additional $4 million was committed specifically for country sawmillers under the Tasmanian Country Sawmills Assistance Program and $10 million for the softwood sector under the Tasmanian Softwood Industry Development Program.
The guidelines below provide more detailed information about the program.
The program has now closed.
All projects approved for funding under the program must be completed and claims lodged for payment with the Department by 15 June 2009 in advance of the program’s end date of 30 June 2009. Further information is available by contacting the Secretariat.
