Firstly, let me say that this will be a jumble of thoughts as just thinking about the ban on live export makes me mad.
To think that people who have absolutely no idea about the cattle industry, who have probably never set foot on a station could close down a whole industry, makes me mad.
These people have no idea how many lives they have ruined, how many jobs have been lost or at least had to come to a standstill and then think a $20,000 handout can fix a multi-million dollar industry. This makes me mad.
The area I work in alone has suffered immensely. Our closest town is 400 km away and yet the town itself is suffering. Most of the businesses, shops, stores, etc get their business from the surrounding stations.
With no cattle to sell we have no income. No income means no purchases. No purchases means our suppliers suffer. This makes me mad.
Did anyone have enough brains to stop and think of the impact closing an industry would have or did they think “ [.…] it the country is stuffed, let’s make it worse!”
Even training courses our staff were going to participate in to better themselves have been cancelled due to the ban.
I don’t just enjoy my life out here. I love it. I love my job, the people I work with and the remoteness (or maybe the fact I can escape the politics and bull[….] of city life).
