Groups across Australia will share in more than $4.9 million in Community Action Grants as part of the Caring for Our Country initiative.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, said Community Action Grants are helping regional, urban and Indigenous community groups across Australia adopt sustainable land management practices and protect the environment.
This year Community Action Grants will fund 293 projects across the country which contribute to enhancing biodiversity, protecting natural resources and supporting the uptake of sustainable farm practices in their local area.
“Projects funded by Community Action Grants bring the community together – from landholders, students and families to local councils and businesses,” Minister Ludwig said.
“It is the people who live and work in the community that have local knowledge and solutions to make a real difference to their local environment.
“This government recognises the important contribution that volunteers and community groups such as Landcare, Coastcare and Indigenous organisations make in engaging communities and inspiring local action to protect and conserve their natural environment.
“These grants will be put to use on projects right around Australia, and our environment will be all the better for them.”

To date Community Action Grants have invested $21.6 million to support 974 groups undertake 1239 projects across Australia.
