Seventy–three projects that support the adoption of sustainable farm practices and reduce the impact of weeds and pests will share in $10.9 million as part of the Gillard Government’s Caring for our Country program.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Senator Joe Ludwig announced the successful projects today after visiting a Caring for our Country project at Mount Tamborine in Queensland.
“The investments we make through Caring for our Country continue to help our farmers, landholders and natural resource management groups to protect and maintain Australia’s environment,” Minister Ludwig said.
“The funding announced today will be used by recipients throughout the country on projects that will cultivate a healthy, well–managed and resilient environment.
“The great work being undertaken by the Tamborine Mountain Landcare Inc Community Group is a fantastic example of how funding like this is put to use, and the results Caring for our Country projects can deliver.”
Today’s announcement is part of the open call component of the 2012–13 Caring for our Country business plan. The 2012–13 business plan identifies the targets and investment focus for the fifth year of Caring for our Country.
“The Gillard Government is committed to continuing to help organisations to make a real and measurable difference to Australia’s environment through Caring for our Country,” Minister Ludwig said.
“Caring for our Country projects take action now to ensure we have productive, healthy and well maintained lands into the future.
“There are already countless farmers, land holders and groups working on projects like these across Australia. I thank them for their hard work and commitment, and look forward to seeing the latest round of funding help them to expand those efforts.”
