Natural Resource Innovation Grants
Australian primary producers are continuing to develop and adopt innovative land management techniques. This will lead to more efficient and sustainable production, and will increase the profitability, competitiveness and sustainability of Australian primary industries.
Natural Resource Innovation Grants - Objective
The Natural Resource Innovation Grants are one-off grants to encourage people in farming, food, aquaculture and forest industries to contribute to sustainable production. They can do this by developing or promoting the adoption of innovative practices, production techniques, technologies and products. Business start-up or commercialisation activities are not eligible for funding under this scheme.
By encouraging innovation, the grants encourage improvement and adoption of best practice, and support the principal goal of the NLP. For the purposes of these grants, 'innovation' is a practice, production technique, technology or product that has not been developed and/or adopted before, or has been adopted only on a limited scale. It is expected that, in most cases, the research phase would have been completed already, but proposals that include applied research will be considered, where the project will clearly deliver NRM outcomes.
Innovative land management practices could be developed and/or implemented to address issues such as:
Climate change and sustainable production
Reducing farm greenhouse gas emissions
Maintenance or restoration of productive capacity
Crop production
Animal productionWater quality
Water use efficiency
Nutrient use efficiency
Management of organic waste
Salinity
This list is not intended to be definitive and other issues may be addressed.
