National Forest Inventory Australia

The National Forest Inventory (NFI) collects and communicates information on Australia's forests.

It aims to:

  • provide a single authoritative source of Forestry data at the national level
  • ensure the development of sound forest policies
  • ensure the viability of Australia's forest industries
  • the development of effective forest conservation strategies

The NFI is a partnership between the Commonwealth and all State and Territory governments.

The Commonwealth provides funding for the NFI's staff and for core activities, including:

  • the collection of forest data
  • the dissemination of value-added information

The States and Territories undertake on-the-ground collection of forest data.

The NFI collates this data and produces a wide range of publications on Australia's forests.

Note: Data not published in National Forest Inventory reports may be available by contacting the office directly.
