A Draft Report on Progress with Implementation of the New South Wales Regional Forest Agreements (RFAs) - Submission by J. L. O. Tedder

24 August 2009

Dear Sirs

The review process does not allow consideration of adequacy of the reserve system, threats to forests from climate change, role of forests in storing carbon, protection of threatened species.

The requirements for conservation outcomes in logging forests needs to be carefully monitored and reported on.

The scope of the review is inadequate to measure the impacts of logging particularly in light of the Auditor Generals recent review.

No further assessment of areas that meet World Heritage requirements was done and this is ignored in this review. There should be a proper FRAMES review particularly in NE NSW. Apparently these have not been done yet wood supply agreements have been signed.

The Commonwealth must be given a role in ensuring that the objectives of the RFA are being met.

There was a report on the achievements of milestones which was not correct nor did it cover all milestones. There must be more transparency in the whole process to ensure that there is ecological sustainable management which is not occurring.

Yours faithfully
James L. O. Tedder
