Regional Forest Agreement
Western Australia
Western Australia has one regional forest agreement. The Commonwealth and State governments signed the RFA for the 4.3 million hectare South-West forest region on 4 May 1999.
The RFA added more than 150 000 hectares to the region's formal reserve system. The 12 per cent addition brought the total area in conservation reserves throughout the forest region to more than 1 million hectares.
The Agreement provided a $59 million timber, tourism and regional industry development package to help forest-based industries exploit new opportunities.
